The theme for this year’s conference comes against the background that the arts has been faced with several challenges and it is believed that the way forward is to break traditional ideologies about the arts. Incorporated in these traditional ideologies are preconceived notions of the value of the arts and there seemingly lack of viability, sustainability and income generation capacity. The conference seeks to provide an opportunity for local, regional and global voices of arts educators, policy makers, researchers and arts practitioners to raise awareness and lead the discourse as cultural agents for change and expression. The goal is to create connections and parallels that would serve to break boundaries of stereotypes and seek to grow the arts; create enlightened appreciation and knowledge of the arts and its intrinsic value to society.
